I know most of you guys who has the mac mini hooked up to a tv for multimedia stuff, but i am looking to do iphone development (coding, lots of text files). Will a mac mini hooked up to a 55" 1080p tv have readable text? or will the resolution not be high enough.

Also in term of the actual setup, i am thinking mac mini -> dvi+optical to hdmi adapter -> tv hdmi input.

will that work? do such adapter exist, that has dvi + opitcal on one end, then hdmi on the other end.

thanks

I have a 50" plasma at about 8-10' viewing distance. Text is perfectly readable off my MBP (Early 2009 17" ub). I use an Apple mini-disp > DVI to DVI > HDMI cable + TOSLINK for audio.

I seem to remember seeing an adapter which would combine the DVI and optical audio to HDMI, but don't know any thing about it.

As a developer myself, I'm not sure I'd like to use a big-screen TV as a display. I suppose I could get used to it, but the couple of times I've hooked up the MBP to the 50", it just seemed "odd" reading and typing on it. I wanted to use it as an option for surfing, too (using BT keyboard and mouse). But, like I said, there's no problem with resolution.

Exact same setup for me as well and while setting mini to 1080p is certainly readable, I actually find it a bit too small to look at for prolonged periods of time so I usually have it set to 720p. I use it most often as HTPC, using Plex to watch video and as all of my library is encoded at standard DVD resolution or 720p for my other :apple:TV, this resolution seems to work out best but as always, YMMV.
