ista on itself uses 10GB, so I'd say make it at least 20GB, so you have room for a few games and some apps.

I don't really plan to install any games really. Maybe Warcraft 3. I just want it for the ability to run native programs IF need be. Maybe on the fly I'll need it.

Thanks for the OS size that;s exactly what I needed to know :)

I installed Ultimate on a 14GB partition. I can't remember exactly how much space Vista used, but kiang's 10GB figure seems about right if I remember correctly.

It certainly doesn't need 40GB.

Indeed. Vista boxes just say 40Gig is the minimum because they presume you are going to use it as your main OS, so all your apps are on Vista.
If they would sya a 15Gig drive is enough, there would be tons of (stupid  ) people calling to MS complaining they can't install anything anymore while they do have the correct HDD :p

I have a copy of Vista too.

I just installed it less than 20 minutes ago on a 15gb partition.

There's only 4.7 gb of free space left now. So, I'm probably going to redo the whole installation process and make a bigger partition :-(.

But it's absolutely gorgeous, I must say. Cleaner than Mac os X, it seems.
