Minute and 34 seconds over... how do I get iDVD to take it?

I have a movie that, in iMovie, is 2:01:34:26. That means 2 hours, 1 minute, 34 seconds and 26 frames over.

iDVD won't take it. I can't cut that minute thirty-four out. This is someone's video that I am placing on a DVD for them.

How do I get it under 2 hours? iDVD is sometimes really inflexible...
 
afaik the only way to get it under is to actually trim the time off the movie, either that or burn a DVD9 instead of a DVD5 but that=a lot more expensive
 
1. Split it in two, and put it on two DVDs for them.
2. Tell you don't have the stuff needed to put it on one disc.
3. Save the original file.
4. Come back to it in a year or two when you can and make another copy for them all on one disc.

If you can't trim the movie, thats my advice.

EDIT: Its not iDVD, but you may want to see if Toast will take the movie.
 
just thought of this: in nerovision express (a program for windows, like a cross between a stripped-down idvd and toast's video dvd functionality) you can turn down the bitrate in order to fit more on the disc. i dont know if idvd supports this, but i believe dvd studio pro and encore dvd do as well.

My iMac doesn't have a Dual Layer drive...

I don't exactly want to pirate DVD Studio Pro... even tho it's just for this one thing. Not good to justify a bad thing.

Oh, and I can't even save as a Disk Image. :(

For one time use only DVD Studio Pro has no benefit other than this one video. None. Why spend an unholy amount on it then? :confused:

Um, perhaps because it's ILLEGAL? :mad: To condone stealing is just plan stupid.
 
1. Send movie to iDVD but dont try and burn it. Instead save it as a disk image.
2. Once saved click on the disk image to open it and drag the video_ts file into Roxio Popcorn (around £20 if you dont have it)
3. Popcorn will then compress the file enough to make it fit on a single sided DVD with very little if any noticable reduction in quality.
4. Burn the disk.

This is how I do it hope it helps.
 
Hi, Toast 7 will do what you want and it might be a good investment for down the road so you don't have to worry. But if this is your only time needing it I think as someone else said can't you change the quality a "pinch" ? Sorry haven't worked in iDVD in the last year to remember what could help a lot :rolleyes:

iDVD 'burns' a disk image-- the same data is sent, but one ends up being placed into a disk image wrapper on the hard drive and the other is written to a DVD. Put it this way-- it is over, so no go on the disk image.

iDVD has Best Quality or Best Performance. They do the opposite of what they say. But yes, it is at the extended one right now.

iDVD has Best Quality or Best Performance. They do the opposite of what they say. But yes, it is at the extended one right now.

I created a movie of similar length in imovie yesterday. When you click to send it to idvd it doesn't automatically burn. You can save the file as a disk image in idvd. (I know because I just did it) Then as I said I dragged the video-ts folder to popcorn to compress and burn the movie. Worked perfectly.

Yes it does. Let's say my car broke down, and I needed to get to work. Does that give me the right to write a bad check to a mechanic? Or worse yet to steal a car? Just because YOU need something does not give you the right (or justify) to reach into my pocket and take money from me.

This is simpy an attempt to justify theft, becuase you don't have the desire or means to pay. No matter how you put it, it is still wrong.

Dude, get off your soapbox. The gentleman already expressed he had no desire to pirate the program. It kills me when persons on message boards try to spew life lessons about morality. Are you perfect. Sorry man, but it just rubs me the wrong way.

By the way i don't condone pirating either, but get sick of hearing every person jump down someone's throat whenever the opportunity arises. It's almost as if people are just following the crowd. On another note, how in the hell is his pirating a single copy of DVD Studio for an explicit one-time use (hypothetically), taking money out of your pockets?

1. I realize it does not automatically burn
2. I know you can save disk images in iDVD
3. How long was your movie? 2:0:0:0 or less?

Toast was an unhelpful... uh... let's not go there.
I'm just going to split it somewhere in the middle. They get 3 DVDs, not 2. ~shrug~ Makes me wish for Blu-Ray a bit, since DL disks cost so much.


And we have established that I will not steal the program. If you would like to donate the program to me, by all means, I'll take it. But I will not steal or even "borrow" it for a short time since that is much the equivalent of a joyride.

So I tried the 'over 2 hours share with iDVD and have it burn a disk image' suggestion. Doesn't work. I shared a 145 minute iMovie project with iDVD and it allowed me to work on the project in iDVD but would not allow me to create a disk image or burn....and I have iLife '05 and it's up to date.
 
I gave in. I made two DVDs. But it took forever to encode... so I put it to sleep so it could wake up in the morning, finish a few minutes of encoding, and then burn... (damn Stuperdrive) but it took it a while to sleep and then it said burning. So, we will see if the disk is good or not.
 
Here is a way that I do for long iMovies. First off this way will destroy the DVD menus but leave Chapter markers intact. First split your iMovie in 2 parts. Next burn the 2 Movies to 2 seperate DVD's. (Use DVD-RW to save money) Then use Mac the Ripper to put the Movies files back onto to your Hard disk. (I am telling you to use Mac the Ripper because sometimes drag and drop creates Mac errors, but Mac the Ripper has never had any errors for me.) Now get yourself DVD2OneX, sorry it cost money. DVD2OneX has a join function in it, instructions for using it are in the Help menu, with only a little study time anybody can do it. joins the Movies and compresses it to fit on one DVD, with a Movie of just over 2 hours you will see no loss of quality. Did I understand your question? sorry if I did not.
