I can’t get Settings—>Camera—>Mirror Front Camera to work. It doesn’t do anything on my iPhone XR or iPad mini 5. I haven’t tried it on my iPad Pro 9.7" yet. Both devices have the option in Settings and thus should be compatible with it. Toggling Mirror Front Camera makes no changes to the front camera at all.

It only does something when you take a photo with the front facing camera. You won’t notice any difference otherwise.

To try if it works or not, follow the steps below:

Get in front of something that has a text on it (such as a newspaper or a signboard).

Take a photo with mirror mode turned off.

Check if the text behind you is not mirrored (i mean not reversed).

Now take a photo with mirror mode turned on.

Check if the text behind you is mirrored (i mean reversed).

If you can see a difference on the photos, then it works.

Thank me later.

Note: I had tried it before, it successfully works in iOS 14. But i don’t prefer to use it.

Okay it does seem to work as far as the photos taken, although last night they were the same regardless of setting, or so I thought. Perhaps I was too tired to test it then. However, it would make sense if they flipped the view in the camera app preview screen rather than just flipping it in the photo. With mirrored toggled on or off you still see a mirrored preview on the display. That is rather stupid. They need to show you what the photo will actually look like. I personally don’t understand why they ever made it take mirrored photos via the front camera. No other camera would do that. Why would they decide to mirror an image thereby showing text going backwards and flipping everything on the left/right axis. Totally stupid...

I totally agree what you have written in your post.

It really doesn’t make sense when an iPhone front camera shows you as mirrored view when you open Camera App but don’t take a photo.

They can put an option in Camera App for iPhone users what will make it easier to change the view (mirrored / not mirrored). Mirror Front Camera: On / Off

By the way i will recommend you an App which you will like: Truth Camera

But i just checked it from App Store if it is still available and downloadable but unfortunately it is not. It’s so sad.

This app shows you as not mirrored view when you open it. You see yourself in this app like how others see you. Actually this is the view when you take a photo by using iPhone’s front camera as Mirror Front Camera option toggled off. I often use it to see how i look like. :)

I hope Apple will do what you have stated and desired in your post above...

I don’t see this option, even after hard restart. On iOS 14 on iPhone X. Is this feature for 11 onwards or something? Or a bug?

I am using iPhone 11 as iOS 14 installed on it and i think this feature is new in iOS, came with iOS 14.

I have iOS 14 installed, on an iPhone X and do not have this option. See image attached:

What i have heard is this feature (mirror front camera) is only available for iPhones Xs and newer models.

So i think the list of the iPhones, supports this feature is:

- iPhone Xs
- iPhone Xs Max
- iPhone XR
- iPhone 11
- iPhone 11 Pro
- iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd Generation) (? - Not sure if this model supports mirror front camera feature)

Your phone (iPhone X) unfortunately does not support this feature. I really do not understand why Apple did not make this feature available for all iPhone models which support iOS 14...

Thanks, that would explain it.
A pity Apple don't make this clear that it's only for 11 onward devices.
That said, not sure it's a processor hungry feature that an X could not cope with!
