Mirroring not working with Mac

I'm on Sierra version 10.12 and when I try and mirror to my AppleTV I get audio but no image. I tried this with my iPhone and both the audio and visual is fine which eliminates connection issues from the Apple TV to my TV. Any help on what settings etc I need to change on my Mac?

Make sure you're using the airplay icon (rectangle with a triangle on the bottom) and not the speaker icon.

if that's not there, check in "system preferences -> displays"
you can either select the aTV there, or click the "show mirroring options" to have it show up in your menu bar.

and if that doesn't help, as crazy as it sounds, try rebooting your router.
