i wish Apple would bring back the Swipe to unlock. I like it better.
Pressing the home button wears out the home button.

Hope they will bring back the swipe mode

Swipe isn't coming back. And I am assuming that all iOS devices going forward will have the new solid-state button, so there will be no more wearing out the button.

But in all seriousness, how many home buttons have your worn out? My GF has an iPad 2 from 2011 and the home button still works perfectly fine.

Additionally, if you have Rest Finger turned on and use Touch ID, you wont need to hit the home button to access your phone.

You can avoid putting wear and tear on your button by going into accessibility > Home button and turning on "rest finger to open".

if you set up a password with touch id, I dont see the utility of slide to unlock at all,

And for quick access, just rest your finger at the home button when you press it up the first time to show the screen and its all like before.

Good luck using your phone in winter even with touch gloves  It will be long way to unlock phone

Has anyone's home button ever broke from normal use?

I think the asians claiming that the home button being susceptible to breakage from everyday use is a terrible thing. Stupid people will believe anything on the internet.

The one on my original Touch broke after about 4 years. My 4s never did.
