UPDATE: Original title: "For God's Sake. Pre-Sign or you might be doomed." I may be so emotional on wasn't able to get the phone on launch day and had to wait for the whole weekend; but according to the comments below, pre-signing may have security concerns (depends on where you live), and if my package was delivered but stolen, I maybe even more doomed. Therefore, I changed the title to not strongly advise you to pre-sign but instead to let you decide by measuring its pros and cons.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Story time. I missed my iPhone 14 Pro Max delivery this noon because I wasn't able to meet the UPS delivery person. Later in the afternoon, I saw a note saying that they would try again on Monday. I REALLY wanted to get the package in my hand today, so I paid $7.99 to UPS in order to change my delivery address to a nearby UPS Customer Center so I could pick it up by myself. I called UPS and talked to a representative, and she was sure that the package would be delivered today, so I paid for the service. They said that they would call in 1 hour, but no one called. Until now, no one contacted me, and my package is still not ready to pick up. I called UPS again, and I was told that the package won't be ready to pick up today. Instead, I have to wait until Monday. I paid $7.99 because I wanted to get the package today. I asked if I could cancel that damn pick-up service, change the delivery address back to my place, and request a refund, but the representative said that he could not change it on his end. He can't do anything but keep saying "sorry." At least he tried something by asking for my contact information so he could urge the service end to process my package faster, but I don't know if it will help. So basically, I'm ****ed, and I have to wait for the whole weekend to receive my new phone.
If I pre-signed the package, the UPS delivery person could just leave the package in front of my place, just like all my Amazon packages, and this mess probably wouldn't happen. I should've learned my lesson from a similar situation from my 2016 MacBook Pro delivery. I also requested UPS to change the delivery so I could pick it up in person that night instead of waiting for another day, and it worked (I wasn't even asked to pay for the $7.99 fee like this time).
