Expecting a new iPhone today and want to move everything from my old iPhone to the new one. I just used iTunes to make a backup of my old iPhone and it says there is 18 GB free. However, on my iPhone under Settings > General > iPhone Storage it says there's only 7 GB free. Conspicuously missing from the iTunes backup is the red bar where Apps should be. This red bar is present on the iPhone Storage page. So, am I not able to copy the apps over to the phone? Surely, I don't have to reinstall each and every one of them?

Apps aren’t backed up the way they used to be since there is no App Store on iTunes anymore.

When you restore from backup apps will be in on the same location on your home screen but they need to be downloaded from the App Store.

Apps will start downloading automatically and all your app data will still be there. However, if the app is no longer in the App Store or is no longer supported, you won’t be able to download it anymore.

So, the update went just as you described but there are several that just say "Waiting..." seemingly without any progress. Are these the incompatible apps?
Is it still saying that? They do take a while to download. You can check them out in the App Store for confirmation.

I believe if they’re not compatible they will still download, they just won’t work when you try to open them. If they’re not available in the App Store they won’t download at all & you should get a pop up

These apps are in the queue to be downloaded.
