Hi, I'm new to the forums :)

I have this .dmg file that I have since OS X 10.6. It is a somewhat huge file that is encrypted, and contains... "files". And since this encrypted .dmg file contains sensitive "files", I have placed the said .dmg file strategically in /System/Library. Up until OS X 10.10, I never had trouble accessing the .dmg file. It was when I upgraded to 10.11 that I noticed that when I accessed the said location, the .dmg file wasn't there. I know that it has not been deleted, since there has been no significant increase in my storage space (the file is 10gb+ big), so I think the file is just transferred somewhere else.

Any ideas where it might have ended up in? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you :)

I would consider re-locating the file to somewhere else in the future...

What Fishrrman said. /System should be thought as Apple's sandbox, and no expectations of anything being preserved there. Add in SIP, yeah, not surprised it's gone.

If you have a TimeMachine back-up, might be able to recover from there.

Found it. MultiFinder17 was right, it was in the SystemMigration folder. Thank you MultiFinder17, you've been of great help. Thanks to Fishrrman and to NoBoMac as well for your contributions :)
