Missing half of hard drive after install

Ok I'm really lost. I installed Yosemite to my MacBook Air on a 2nd partition. Then I went to delete the original partition but it wouldn't let me do that. So I reinstalled Yosemite on that partition and was able to delete the 2nd partition. But now I've got half my hard drive space and can't resize the partition. Anyone know how to fix this? Photos added. First photo is the installed stuff and the second shows a grayed section that I can't seem to mess with at all. I try and format it but it doesn't do anything. I just want my one hard drive of a 128 as one partition again. I'm really fine starting over again, I'm really lost on why the rest of my drive isn't showing up and I can't resize the current partition to take the space back.

You can't resize a booted partition. What if you boot to recovery and launch disk utility from there?

Tried that as well, didn't work. Samething occurs, the 2nd part says free space but I can't format it to anything. I hit apply and it won't go further.

Very similar problem here.

I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite on my main partition. Then tried to delete the partition I had Yosemite Beta installed on but wouldn't work through Disk Utility.

Probably entered a wrong Terminal command: "diskutil corestorage revert <UUID of Yosemite partition>"

Now I'm stuck with this.

Any help much appreciated...

Filevault

Maybe this has to do with FileVault?

It is still encrypting my hard drive. Will try resizing in Disk Utility again once it's done and report back here.

I was thinking that as well, hopefully that's the case. I can't check mine since I went to work.. Really hoping that's it.

A standard install of Yosemite now turns the volume into a core storage volume that cannot be resized unless you turn off the corse storage. You can do that by running the command below in Terminal. Then you will be able to resize normally. You can resize a boot volume while booted to it.

diskutil cs revert /

Disconnect any other drives before you do this.

If you have turned on FileVault encryption, then yes you will need to turn it off before you can resize the volume.

This sounds very promising. Waiting for the hard drive to finish encryption, then decrypting. Then trying this.

Turn off FileVault

Just turning off FileVault worked for me. Was able to resize the partition after that.
