Hello all!
I upgraded to the iOS 17 and I’ve noticed that when I go to text my friend, I’ve noticed some photos have disappeared. I click see all and not all photos are there anymore.

I can scroll through my texts with that person and see the pics, but I want to know what happened to them on photos?

I’ll attach what I’m talking about.

In Messages? You can delete photos in the Photos app, but that doesn't delete them in Messages. You may have deleted them in your camera roll. What shows in Messages has nothing to do with what's in the camera roll.

That makes sense. But they were there before the update.

Did you check in the Recently Deleted Folder. They might still be there. How many photos do you have in your camera roll? Do all of them still show in Messages?
Also go to settings> General > iPhone Storage > Messages > Photos. See if any are there. Tap on a photo and save. Might be easier than going through messages.

No none of them showed up. The weird thing is not all is missing. I do see them when I scroll through our old texts- then I see the photo. But not on photos underneath the profile info.

Do you think they could’ve deleted the photo on their end of texts? Is that why it’s not showing?

No, it doesn't work that way. I have noticed when I delete photos in the info section in messages, that some remain in the comment thread. No clue why. You should be able to see all the photos in Messages, by going to Settings> General > iPhone Storage > Messages > Photos.

As far as I'm aware, it's an iOS 17 bug. I've read many posts on this issue. Wait for the upcoming 17.1 update which should be released early next week.

If the issue still persists 1-2 days after installing the update, go to Settings>Siri & Search>Messages and toggle off then on the options you want. Reboot your phone, charge and connect to Wi-Fi to force the Messages app to re-do its media indexing.

Good luck and report back with results!
