Missing push notifications in iOS 4.x

I've noticed with my new phone some annoying behaviour on 4.0.1. If I receive any push notifications while I have no internet access I'll never receive them even after regaining internet access. After checking on a 3.1.3 phone this isn't what is supposed to happen.

Can anybody else confirm this by sending themselves a push notification with notifications off and then turning them on to see if they arrive?

No one else noticing this issue? I'd hate to miss an important notification because I was on the train or something

I use the tube daily and if I miss a notification, it normally comes when I toggle airplane mode or reboot.
