Is it possible to set up switching between Spaces in Mission Control so that when the ribbon at the top of the display with all the desktops comes up it doesn't also display EVERY freaking window I have open in an Expose-like layout? I usually have a ton of things open at any given time, but having to wait for all of the windows to display (and the smaller windows it shows seem to also be dynamically updating) is getting on my nerves. I used to use TotalSpaces2 to move between desktops but since it doesn't work under Monterey, and TotalSpaces3 will be Mx only and arrive sometime in the next decade, I'm having to suffer using Apple's crippled spaces management.

Any Terminal-fu I can use to fix this? Or another app that does what TotalSpaces2 did? I know I can set up command keys to move between spaces but having to remember which one gets me to which space is not something I'm particularly good at.

You can always click on an app icon in the Dock and it will take you to the space where that app lives, and give that app the focus.

There is also a setting in System Preferences/Mission Control that I believe is checked by default, called "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use". If you still have that set, I can see how it would be confusing to remember which space is the one you want. If you uncheck that, space 1 will always have the same apps, same as space 2, etc. This makes using Ctrl-1, Ctrl-2, etc. much easier to remember.
