Isn't the point of Mission Control to be able to have multiple desktops going? If it's merely the same desktop, multiplied across iterations, merely with different apps open, this seems mildly useful but not very. Didn't Apple miss an opportunity here to truly create the ability to have different spaces for different projects, whereby each desktop is unique in look/feel and content (apps, folders, etc.)?

Well, you can change the "look" of the individual desktops by changing their wallpaper individually, so there's that.

As it is now, AFAIK, everything resets once you delete a virtual desktop or restart, so that would be a bummer if you spent a bunch of time moving specific folders and apps to it. You can't save spaces for later recall. So they'd need to add that feature first.

Swapping “workspace” in place of “desktop” (or probably more of Desktop) might help clarify the benefit.

I like Mission Control/Spaces how it is, a simple way to reduce app window clutter by reducing overlaps. For example, most times, I use one app or app type per space (e.g., one for Messages and Discord, one with Mail, and another with a Web browser or browsers. However, of course, you can do utilize them. Another example could be one with VSCode and Firefox Developer Edition, another with a Finder window and an FTP or other transfer client, and a third with Zoom, MS Teams, Discord or other social/com app(s). Then, all you need to do is switch apps as usual (Command + Tab) or Space (Control + left arrow or right arrow).

I like it just fine it's part of one of my favorite things about MacOS. I remember when I first saw the beginning of it when they showed 10.3 Panther and Expose. The first time I saw Expose being used by Steve Jobs on stage I ran out of the room screaming like I just saw a witch. The audience gasped, some possibly fainted.
