mix and match RAM (2GB from Apple, 4GB from OWC or Crucial?)

is it possible to mix and match RAM in a Mac mini? Thinking of getting the non-server version using my student discount. It comes with 2GB of RAM. Can I plug in another 4GB module from OWC or Crucial for a total of 6Gb? Would that work?

I use a 2010 mini with a 2gb samsung module that shipped with the mini; and a 4gb corsair module and it works great.
