Mixing Apple ID's on MacMini

Got my new MacMini today. My first!! It set up like a champ. No problems at all.
I have many iOS devices and am pretty much an Apple fan.
My question has to do with logins.
I bought this computer for my wife and set it up with her Apple ID.
Now I see I can login as a guest and not disturb her stuff.
So, can I set up a separate login using my Apple ID and have a place to call my own, without messing her up?
Understand this question is the result of mixing up contacts on a 3GS, which I've never lived down.

Yes, you can create another user account and assign a different Apple ID to that account.
