Whilst waiting for my MP to turn up I've been wondering if there's any performace impact when mixing the stock SATA 2 (3gb/s) drive, with an older SATA 1 (1.5gb/s) drive in a different slot.

I'd like to use the SATA1 drive as a scratch volume and possibly for time machine when it's available but not if it drags down the performace of the SATA 2 drive to match.

Anyone know?

Actually, I did that...
when I first got my Mac Pro, I tossed in 2 80gb seagate SATA 1 drives in bay 3 and 4 while waiting for my other hard drives to arrive...

other than running slower than the SATA 2 that came from Apple, they worked fine.

Unlike PATA, every SATA device is on it's own bus, with it's own controller, so the drives won't impact each other's performance.
