Hello,
does anyone know a software for mac, which just demux a MKV file and put the content into a MP4 container? I have Playback from Yazsoft and it has this kind of function and also converts an existing AC3 stream to AAC (for Xbox and Playstation), but there isn't an option to keep the AC3 stream as second stream for example for ATV.
So I'm looking for a software, which can change the container, converts AC3 to AAC, keep the AC3 stream and if there is only a DTS stream converts this one to AAC AND AC3 (Dolby Digital).

Thanks!
Felix

i don't think so. only because i think there is something at the beginning of the file that tells the codec, or whatever, how to read the rest of the stuff. mkv is nice for many streams, but mp4 is not. but, they both will hold that h.264 with the same file size. you can probably get this done with software. vlc can help.

or, just keep your mkv and say forget apple tv. only because not even every mp4 will play on it. only certain, more specific ones. with mkv, you can have lots of streams!

ffmpeg can do this, but you'll need to get your hands dirty in the command line.

If you're attempting to playback the re-muxed streams on an AppleTV, then forget it. The chances of finding an H.264 stream that will, without modification, playback are very small.

Ok I have some time the next days, so I want to try converting some videos.

First of all, which tool for mac can show me which profile is being used in a mkv container? And which profiles exactely are supported by the (new) appletv?

So if I have a mkv video file, which is containing a video stream, which I could play on the (new) appletv, how can I convert this mkv to a mp4 keeping ac3 and adding/creating an aac stream?

EDIT:

I have found MediaInfo for mac, so here are the informations MediaInfo gave me:

Would this file work on an appletv? I'm just wondering, because it says High@L3.1... Ist it high or main profile?
