Hi everybody, sorry if I am asking stupid question... Really tired of playing with encoding mkv to mp4 since i got my apple tv. Tried to use search but no luck.
So what is the best way for me to convert mkv with 2 (different languages) DTS (5.1 sound) Audio Tracks to mp4?

With handbrake I can't choose AC3 Passthru. With AAC codec i got only 2 channels. Also i tried MakeMKV. It works with small files perfectly, but when i am trying to encode 15gb it's sucks.

When you are creating the mkv file with MakeMKV are you selecting both audio tracks to be ripped?

In Handbrake you can add the second audio track (AC3), but it also depends on the profiel you are using. For ATV2 you are best to download and install the most currently nightly build. It has a preset for ATV2 and as longs as the mkv has the AC3 track in it, it will encode it.

Yes with MakeMkv i am selecting both tracks, it works perfectly when i am encoding part of movie, like 200 mb. when it comes to 15gb after 6 hours it says encoding finished but there is no encoded file.

In handbrake i am trying to choose ac3 with the last nightly build but it jumps back to ACC :(

The latest nightly of Handbrake should definitely convert DTS to 5.1-channel AC3 for you. It's not called AC3 passthru, it's the other one. (AC3, then 6-channel discrete.)

Hanbrake nightly build works fine.
Just select the dts track feom the source and select ac3 and 6 channel discrete as output (as mentioned before).
Worked for all my mkvs (ripped with makemkv from BluRay).

Sorry but it doesn't work fine, may be because of my files.
Finally I got it working with last build. Good video quality and 5.1 sound, BUT there is another problem, every 20 seconds the sound disappears for a moment. And doesn't matter I am playing it on Itunes or Apple Tv.

Mkvtools.

This is the best option. Set mp4 to passthrough video and convert audio to ac3 5.1 or aac. Much faster and should give you better results.

Thanks guys I went with MkvTools and got 12 gb of 1080p MP4 video from 14 gb MKV with 5.1 DTS. And this really works for me.
To load this kind of movie to apple tv takes about 20 sec. But after buffering everything works great.

I have one more question about Apple tv 2 and Netflix.

There is HD movie on Netflix called IP MAN. When I watch this movie from my computer it is on English. When I am trying to load it on ATV it gives me Chinese language. Is there any way to change sound track ?
