ML can you do a clean install from an external HDD?

I wanted to do a clean install, but I noted that ML is 4GB+ (just a little more).
But I don't have a USB that's big enough.
So I wondered, if I create a partition on my HDD of 16GB (or so),
will I be able to do a clean install?

Any ideas?
