ML clean install from USB stick not working

Hello,

I'm trying to clean install Mountain Lion the same way I did with Lion (extracting InstallESD.dmg, putting it on a USB stick).
Unfortunatley my iMac 27" 2010 won't boot it. It stays looping the little progress wheel.

Anyone got a solution for this?

Is the USB flash memory thumb drive properly formatted?

Did you take similar steps like shown in this guide?
Make An OS X Lion Boot Disc
