Netkas just posted his findings from the Developer Preview 3 of Mountain Lion, look like there are hints of drivers for AMD Radeon HD 77xx, 78xx and 79xx cards !

If I understand correctly Apple has revamped the way they work gfx drivers in Mountain Lion (!). This and the new Intel ThunderBolt controller chips gives me good hope the Mac Pro is incoming (WWDC ?).

The iMacs use the laptop discrete GPUs.
These are desktop cards, that could only be destined for Mac Pros.

With luck Apple will sort out the OpenGL 3.2 implementation so that 3D Graphics Applications, such as Luxology modo, MAXON CINEMA 4D, Side Effects Houdini... can actually use it without needing to completely rewrite their viewport code!

But would the iMacs have 79xx (Tahiti) cards ?

Edit: anwsered my own question , sorry, didn't even realise the iMacs have a 6970M option.
