Does the Game Center feature in Mountain Lion just support games purchased in the Mac App Store? I imagine games must also need to be coded to make use of its features. So currently there probably is not much working with it?

I do have some games bought in the App Store but unless they get updates I don't expect any of them will work with Game Center. I guess I can hope developers might add support but I wonder how inclined they might be to do that for existing titles versus upcoming ones.

Lastly, most of my Mac native games are on Steam. I don't suppose there is any support of those in Game Center is there?

Thanks for any info. I am interested in this new feature but pretty in the dark about what it actually does and works with.

At the moment the rules appear to be that the feature is only allowed to be used by Mac App Store versions.

It is something we are evaluating for our games, how much work is it per game, what games should we do first etc...

Nope, and as they are competing systems I don't think their ever will be. SteamWorks is only available for Steam games and Game Center is only available for App Store games.

It's basically like Xbox Live!, PSN or SteamWorks. You get achievements, leader boards and multiplayer services like game matching and team speak.
