I'm about to do a Mountain Lion update over a fresh install of Snow Leopard (from the restore DVD). Should I bother running any of the SL updates or just go ahead and update to Mountain Lion?

Better not Update, but as far as I know most if not all System files will be updated and non ML files deleted.

Great. Makes sense, and saves me a boatload of time as well. I appreciate the input. Thank you.

Edit/Note: I did have to update to 10.6.8 before I could run the Mountain Lion installer. Not that it's news, but I hadn't thought about that. Just updating the post for the sake of future people using this thread for information.

I'm curious... How would you update to Mountain Lion without downloading it via the MAS..? And to have MAS, you'll need 10.6.8...? Your Restore DVD usually comes with a version of SL before that...

Or if you already have a bootable Mountain Lion to start with, why bother with a fresh install of SL at all...?

You will need to update to at least 10.6.8. That's the earliest OS version you can use to get to the Apps store to download Mountain Lion.

To satisfy your curiosity...

This is a 2nd partition. The first partition has 10.6.8.
I'm setting up a 2nd partition to play around with 10.8.
So I downloaded it via the App Store from my SL partition.
Had no memory stick or Dual Layer DVD to make bootable media from.
So I'm doing the install/upgrade via the SL restore disk, and then the ML update that I downloaded.
