Got your basic Mountain Lion USB install stick here. I've used it on different occasions for different reasons since ML came out.

The Mac Mini will NOT recognize this USB stick. I've tested it in my MBA (which is running ML 10.8.2) & it will boot up just fine. Kinda stunned at this to be honest. Don't understand what's up?

That's because the new Mini's run a special build and their firmware won't allow any version older then their shipping version to boot.

Wow, didn't know that. Wouldn't wasted so much time then. Wonder how many arms & legs it costs to get an install version for this Mini. This restoring via the next, even on a fast pipe = time wasted.

Thanks for the info :)

Intell is on the mark here. You can capture the ML version for your machine by following this process and then using the captured image to make your USB installer.

This worked great for me! Thanks so much for the link and the suggestion. I tried 5-6 times making a USB install drive from various sources and just could NOT get it to work on my 2012 Mac Mini. This process worked perfectly.
