I was expecting a lot more from the MLB app. I was thinking it was going focus more on the play by play not a scoreboard.

I haven't tried it yet (no iPhone yet), but it seems very disappointing they won't let you access streaming audio of games on there.
You know how many times I am at say the beach or elsewhere and would like to listen to a Red Sox game for a bit, but have no access to a radio?
If AOL Radio and Pandora can do streaming music, then this application should have the ability to listen to streaming audio of games.
I hope that is coming soon (especially since I am about ready to pay the ETF to Verizon and get an iPhone).

Wouldn't there be some sort of licensing issue at hand? I know it's made by MLB but it's gotta be some sort of contractual issue that would disallow this (for right now).

I love the app so far. I understand wanting more from it, and perhaps they will add more features in the future. But I wanted it for exactly what it does. My only complaint would be that I can't also view current standings with it (or maybe I'm just missing it). Otherwise, it's one of the better looking apps out there so far. IMHO

As a hardcore baseball user I'm fairly satisfied with the App, although I certainly am looking forward to something more advanced with full Gameday functionality.
I tested it out at a game tonight, and it was usually at best a couple of pitches behind, sometimes more. Video wasn't as good over 3G as over Wifi.
For those looking for more Gameday-type information, you can tap the globe at the bottom when a game is highlighted, and it will open up Safari and take you to the WAP.MLB page for the game which will give you that information. It's usually only a pitch or two behind and will give you all of the box score-type information, as well as live pitch-by-pitch for the current batter. It's not perfect, but it is more than adequate, and I've used that page a lot at the park to clear up scoring decisions and pitch counts. It looks much better on the Iphone than on Blackberry.

Disagree here, if you click on the globe on the bottom right it takes you right to the mlb gameday wap page. They said they are considering more features for future versiosn. They also showed it off a few times and posted many screenshots so it's kinda obvious what it does.

Their pricing strategy is keeping me from buying it. If I'm reading the description correctly, I will be charged $4.99 for the rest of the 2008 season and then the app will expire. I'm guessing that the 2009 version will cost $9.99 for the whole season. I think that charging for every season is a greedy move by MLB. Essentially this app is a subscription instead of an app in the spirit of the Apps store.
Yes, but that's also involved in video clips, most of which seem to come from local Fox affiliates.
That might be something to try next year. Something similar to this for the whole season for $9.99. A better version with play-by-play for $14.99 or $19.99.
This is a 1.0 product, so I'm sure we'll see better stuff in the future. Hopefully the NFL can hit a home...er, score a touchdown with something similar.
I think the NBC folks missed a goldmine not doing this for the Olympics. However, they've been screwing the pooch a lot in 2008.I agree. The MLB app... mostly SUCKS.

I tried it for fun yesturday. It seems okay but was pretty annoyed that the Red Sox game had 4 highlights. 3 from the first inning and one form the 9th. No grandslam no other play nothing. Yet the Yankees game had about 9 or 10 highlights. Either way it seems okay for now.
