So now we get to see if $425 million can really buy a championship or not.

And the Yankees are still asking the NY taxpayers for another $400 million to finish the new toilet...

Man, rooting for the Red Sox is going to suck this year. Its sure been a great off season; we've traded Coco Crisp for some reliever and extended Pedroia's contract, yeah, we've got a lot done. So are we looking at 3rd place in the division or what?

Lets just go after Manny, oh, wait...

Before signing Teixeira, that Yankees lineup was absolute crap. Now it's decent. They still have a lot of questions though.

IF the Sox lineup, mainly Ortiz, Lowell, and Drew who each missed over 50 games last season, can stay healthy and produce, they can easily compete. The problem is that when these guys end up getting hurt, the lineup turns in to ****.

The Red Sox didn't need Teixeira. Sure, it would have been nice, but they'll still be fine without him. I would have been fine if he went back to LAAA, or if he went to any other team other than the Yanks. Spending over $400 million on 3 of the 4 best free agents available in a span of 3 weeks is ****ing ridiculous. The Yankees payroll next year could be nearly $100 million more than the Red Sox, and over $150 million more than the Rays. How are other teams supposed to even compete in that type of market? The Orioles and Blue Jays are now completely screwed for the foreseeable future. There's no way in hell they can compete in the division with 3 of the 5 best teams in baseball.

I doubt it.......... They don't seem to want to pay the money.

No, they don't want to give him the years, which is perfectly understandable for a NL team. Besides, the Dodgers are the only club to make him any kind of offer so far. What do you expect them to do, bid against themselves?

No.... but the money goes right along with the years.......

No, but that's almost too obvious. And again, the Dodgers are the only team to offer him anything, about the same annual salary as Teixeira will be making with New York. If a player isn't getting four, five or more-year offers, it's because he isn't worth the risk.

Manny will either get years or money, not both. I can see him getting either 3 years at 18 or 25 for 2 years. He won't get 4 years at 25.

Wait--a lineup with Damon, Jeter, Teixeira, and A-Rod is merely "decent"?:eek:

To think us A's fans would be happy with a lineup that could hit over .260 as a team. :p

Jeter and especially Damon are nowhere near what they were 4-5 years ago. And their defense is even worse than their offense.

I would still take Jeter in the big spot. He may be slower but he is not washed up.

This is pretty close to what the Dodgers already offered him.

With Teixeira going to New York (in yet another obscene deal, but never mind), I think the Dodgers actually have a better chance at getting Manny.

In 2008 Damon hit .303 with 17 home runs and 71 batted in. In 2004, he hit .304/20/94, and in 2005, .316/10/75.

And looking at Jeter's stats, he still hits and gets on base.

But what do the Yanks do with Posada? Can he catch another year? I thought they were opening 1B for him.

(I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to booing Teixeira in Camden Yards.)

Anyone wanna guess where Lowe will end up? Mets? Sox? anywhere else?

According to this,the Mets

Derek Lowe closing in on deal with Mets

According to a baseball source, The New York Mets appear to be closing in on a deal for free-agent pitcher Derek Lowe.

The deal is believed to be four years in length, or three years with a vesting option. The contract is estimated to be worth between $14-16 million per season. Lowe just finished up a four year, $36 million deal with the Dodgers.

In 2008, Lowe was the Dodgers most consistent pitcher down the stretch and finished with a 3.24 ERA to go along with a 14-11 record with 211 innings pitched.
