Mlb.tv Vs Extra Innings

So I use Extra innings baseball for $180 a year. The quality is horrible, and some games decide not to play.
I see that on the apple tv, I can get Mlb.Tv for $120 in HD!
Would the apple TV a good choice to buy because of this? I would also buy some movies, and more.

I was in the same boat 2 years ago, and i'm glad I made the switch to MLB.tv.

I started with a Roku box, and it was a mixed bag last year - at times, excellent and at times awful (quality, rebuffering and all sorts of other issues). It's *much* better this year.

AppleTV is also very nice - it's now my primary MLB streamer with my Roku moving to backup duties.

If you've got a good, fast internet connection (I'd say, realistically, 7MB or better) you will really enjoy it. The quality is better than Extra Innings muddy SD, and not quite ESPN 720p, but it's very close.

Overall, i'm very happy not to be buying extra innings any longer.
 
Still no way around blackouts in the home area? I would buy MLB.tv if I could watch my home team - I don't have cable.

Yes, but it's been problematic on many devices. I run MLB on both a Roku box and Apple TV - streaming at the start of the season is almost always a mess.

My aTV has been better at handling the stream hiccups than the Roku, which often goes to a black "reloading..." screen or loses audio/video sync.

I just went out and bought an apple tv as my Roku was impossible to watch the MLB on constantly reloading. The Apple TV seems a bit better. MLB has been no help on this at all. Tech guys searching Google for answers while I wait on the phone. Did it get any better as the season went on? Would increasing my speed from my local cable provider help at all?
 
i had the roku player last year and it was a nightmare. so far i have watched every yankee game available on mlb.tv with my apple tv and have nothing but great things to say about it.
i also noticed that last night even though espn was broadcasting the yankees vs. twins game i was still able to watch on my apple tv. i thought it would be blacked out since espn had the monday night game. i have not tried to see if it is blacked out then tnt or tbs is broadcasting as well. so it seems that only local broadcasts of home teams are blacked out or when fox is broadcasting nationally.

I sure wish there was a way around that. If I could watch home team games then I would subscribe. I would not use it that much though if I can't watch my home team.

Anything special you are doing I may not be? I am using an apple airport extreme

Roku problems seemed to come and go with traffic - middle of the season (when nobody seemed to be watching) was good, but beginning and end of the season was bad.

It's been better this year, by a long shot.

If you haven't already done so, check out a program called "namebench" form google and run it to analyze your DNS setup. It did help me.
 
Quality is mostly adequate but it can go from great to bad pretty quickly. Hard to say where the problem is when the quality goes down. I got it because I can subscribe for $25 a month ($5 extra to get the telecast you want). There are a lot of restrictions for national games but I want to try and follow the Red Sox--assuming they ever win a game. But if I get sick of it, I can just cancel my subscription--and I really didn't want to give any more money to my cable company--so I'm happy with it. I have both Roku and ATV and really have not noticed an appreciable difference between them as far as PQ is concerned.

The whole thing is very frustrating. Just want to watch the Yankees down here in Florida. Hate to go back to cable MLB extra innings. Only 1 in 10 games is HD for me. Spent hours on the phone with MLB tech. They said ot is the "Next Def" whatever that is. They said it should be fixed soon. I'm skeptical. I couldn't even get them to understand this was a Roku and Apple Tv not a computer I was calling about.

Was just watching White Sox and KC--CWS feed--and the quality was pretty good. I guess whatever term that MLB is using must fit the bill but still, the PQ is adequate and looks ok on my 55 inch Samsung--certainly better than SD. I'm on Bright House on the Florida East Coast.
 
the yankee game on the yes network on the appletv was a little rough last night, better towards the end of the game though. first time i had problems. it does rebuff itself better then my roku player did last season, the roku player would just get stuck in rebuff mode and i would have to restart it completely.

never have a problem streaming it online or on my iphone or ipad and or ipod when on my same wireless network as my atv. so im thinking it is either the appltv itself or mlb when it happens. not an internet speed or wireless issue causing it since the iphone and ipad work fine all the time.

it would make sense if that was the case..

i will have to try another game is a not so popular market next time i see i am having issues and see if there is a difference, or if there is a difference with the home or away feed.
 
it has been working great for me the last couple weeks.. anyone else see a difference?
