I was trying to avoid posting a new thread, but I too am encountering a similar issue and was wondering if I could get some help. Sorry if its a repeat.
I purchased my mac mini no later than 2012 (Im really banking on 2013 but i'll confirm when I get off from work) and I noticed my Samsung monitor (which is far older, my guess 2008/2009) would get into these lulls where the screen would turn black, but my mac mini would run fine and the only solution was to turn the screen on and off multiple times until it translated and showed the information/ screen correctly.
Assumed it was just the screen and since i could NOT afford time being wasted on trying to fix an old monitor i bought myself an 27inch IMAC with the idea of using it as a monitor for a few weeks while I cleaned up the Mac mini and backed it up/ restored it on my Imac.
Well...when I tried that I turned both on, connected them with the thunderbolt cables, my Imac loaded (slowly) and tried pressing the keys to launch TM and noticed my Mac mini turned off.
After a few tries (and unplugging the thunderbolt cable) and shut downs, I had to switch to the old monitor and connect it to a different power source and then found it was stuck on a loading screen (apple logo) before it would turn off. I then tried using CMD + R and verified both the backup and the normal HD and it said both appeared to be fine but still having issues. Any suggestions?
