So we'll probably have an update of some sort to look forward to in the future that will give us IM/MMS capabilities.

Under the "Warranty & Repair" section of the sales manual (pg. 31) it says the following:

"Details
MEdiaNet will be used to access the Internet. MMS and IM messages are included in the
customer’s iPhone Data Plan."

Will you people give up on this ****???? It is not true....if you read the whole document, that MMS statement is on the next page of the document under the area explaining what happens if users use their iphone SIM in another ATT phone. It lists the first two distinctions on the bottom of the previous page as "Visual Voicemail will not be available, however regular voicemail will be accseeible by pressing "1" to hear messages." and on the top of the next page " MediaNet will be used to access the internet. MMS and IM messages are included in the customer's iPhone data plan."

Go to the full manual and look at the bottom of page 30 and the top of page 31 to verify this.

It is settled give it a rest.

Actually, this is probably just standard boilerplate text that's been affixed to the iPhone's data plan. It might exist for other data plans as well. I wouldn't take this as a gospel truth/guarantee... though I think it's reasonable think of MMS/IM in a future update as a possibility. I mean, there are four more spots on the home screen. ;)

I agree that at some point we'll see MMS and/or chat added to the iPhone at a later date.

if one actually reads the document it's relatively clear that you are correct regarding this blurb from the manual.

only a matter of time though

Exactly. In other words, iPhone customers are paying for features not included.

Whether this statement was in here or not, doesn't rule out the possibility (or confirm future development for that matter) of a software update...

Someone can easily make a app that will do IM, and as far as MMS, apple will see the demand.

So it's certain it will happen.

No, it really ISN'T certain. Nothing is certain until it's been announced (and even things that are announced and not shipping can change). It's a possibility, nothing more. To get yourself all hyped up thinking it's OMG GONNA HAPPEN is stupid, because it's just as likely (at this point) that it won't happen.

The iPhone will get MMS by the time it comes to Europe. Seems like it may not be used that much at the moment in the states but over it everyone uses it. This past week alone i have received 5 picture messages and sent about 12. I have even had 2 video calls, all with my lowly K800 with its poor 3.2Mp camera that is at least a year old.

Explain why it won't happen.

IM has already been taken care of, and as far as MMS, i would bet a iPhone on it that MMS will exist for the iPhone in the coming weeks.

I agree with you there, maybe 2 months max before a web app exists for MMS.

yeah, we know... but we're speculating that it will be added soon, either by Apple or through an little weblet add-on. Cool?

You have reading comprehension problems. I'm not saying it WON'T happen. I'm saying you shouldn't assume it WILL when there's no strong evidence/announcement in either direction. Assuming it will happen when you don't know for sure merely sets you up for disappointment.

Yeah Cool... But they still haven't added MMS to Sidekick after all revisions of the product. It's wishful thinking if you ask me...
