I downloaded Quip for MMS purposes this morning and guess what, it actually works, sort of. It allows you to send a photo to any SMS enabled phone! The photo arrives via a link. No ID or PASSWORD required to view! The app did quit SEVERAL times when selecting the send to option in my testing but it works more times than not. A few bug fixes and this will be an awesome app! MMS HAS NEARLY ARRIVED! This is a great free app which I anticipate will get much better unless Apple kills it!

Too bad if the person you're sending the "MMS" to doesn't have a data plan. And sucks that you can't receive MMS with it. Hmm, so that app is very un-useful, but good fine 
That is NOT MMS, FAR from it. A MMS contains a pic or a movie in the actual message, I'm sick of these apps pretending to be able to send MMS when they don't even use the MMS protocol! Do they even send the text message as you?

If you want to send MMS, fake MMS are better than no MMS. Besides, even if he can send real MMS messages, the receiver still wants to have some sort of data plan. Receivers of regular MMS messages ALWAYS use data and will be billed for it.
A MMS plan is not a Data plan, if for example you have 200 MMS messages on your plan but no data plan and someone sends you one of these so called MMS messages, first it counts against your text message count not your MMS count and then if you do click the link then you get charged for whatever data you download and I can almost guarantee the link isn't to just a picture but a website with advertising so it could be quite costly to view that message.
