MMS never going to be an option?

I did a quick, fruitless search and it appears (not that this is terribly surprising) but there's no MMS app in the store. I don't understand Apple's stubbornness. I'd be willing to pay to send and receive MMS. Can anyone enlighten me as to Apple's official stance on this? Wasn't VOIP calling mentioned as an App Store possibility? If so, then why not MMS?

I wonder if it'll be possible to jailbreak on 2.0 so I can install MMS?

there has to be something behind the whole MMS thing, I dont know if its steve jobs or AT&T that refuses to allow it. But i think somethings up behind the scenes or we would have had it a long time ago.

The SDK doesn't allow anyone to make an MMS app. MMS requires access to the baseband to receive the notifications, and Apps (very sensibly for security reasons) are blocked from doing that. Jailbroken apps do get that access, hence the existance of Swirly.

Of course, Apple themselves could make an app that ignores their rules since they don't have to develop sorely through the SDK, so they could make an app. But if they were going to then you'd have though they'd have done it already…

MMS is a completely different form of communication. This is why text messages are different to email messages. iPhone still allows for text messages. It is ludicrous that it doesn't allow for MMS. It's ridiculous i can't even RECEIVE an MMS; I have to go to some ancient website and am forced to admit that my iPhone can't receive mms.

Is there any reason why a separate company couldn't organise a system whereby I send my MMS to them through their app and then they send it along to the intended recipient?
I'd pay $10 p/m to do this.

If not I want SWIRLY back (though, in truth, I never got this working in the first place).

I completely agree. It just doesn't seem logical to me that Apple would even bother to offer text messaging at all and not offer all the facets that go along with text messaging such as that of MMS.

If Apple weren't going to add MMS, I was just about to get Jailbreak and get Swirly myself until I found out that Swirly isn't working anymore.

Also, the majority of those that I talk to find that the lack of MMS is laughable considering almost every other simple handheld out there released in the past year can do it.

I'd love to hear an explanation from Jobs myself. I've said this before, but don't you wish Steve would have a Q&A session after his keynotes?

No one asked him though.
I can't tell you how much it frustrates me. And the old 'use email' argument doesn't work. We could use email for text messages but they still provide texting support; acknowledging that it is a different type of communication.

I'll be honest this is why I was so excited about the 2.0 update because I thought that it might provide MMS. Imagine the disappointment myself and nearly everyone else felt when we found out we still can't get them!! What is even worse then having to go to the website is that you can't go to the website from your phone. So you have to wait until you get around a computer to view it. If I had 5 cents for everytime someone laughed when they found out my "mobile computer and the internet in my pocket" can't do something as simple as MMS I would be able to buy Apple and add MMS myself. I wish they would at least acknowledge this glaring flaw and give us a reason for it not being included ....for god sake my sister just went and got a free phone that has MMS!!!!

Note: Mind you I love my iPhone and I'm intending on getting the new one as well...just needed to get those complaints off my chest....

i personally dont use MMS much but every once in a while someone will send me a picture or i wish to send someone a picture so its good to have it, also like some others have mentioned its quite embarrassing to tell people that my super-hyped phone cant receive something that their acient $99 phone can.

Have to agree with that.

It's worth noting the number of MMS's sent over the year of the iPhones release have gone *UP*, not down.

That makes it pretty much the dictionary definition of not dying like floppies were.

After the March 6th event, people stayed to ask questions. That's how we know VOIP was only on Wi-Fi, etc.

No one asked about MMS.

I'm sure it's cause they just want it to die. After all, they'd just have to add a + or paperclip icon next to the textfield in SMS then link it to the photo library. Then add in the code for MMS stuff.

But why would he believe MMS would die but not texting? Why supply one not the other. If email was to truly take over from MMS then the same should be the case for email taking over from texting. But why not let apps supply it?

Seeing as how Modmyifone.com is reporting that 2.0 is jailbroken will this mean that we can use SwirlyMMS? Somebody mentioned that Swirly is no longer working. Is this the case?
