i restarted my phone synced it updated the carrier file from within itunes and still, ever since i updated to 3.1 i no longer have the ability to put pictures into messages (not even just to have them error out)

did you check in settings/messages that MMS option is there and also ON or OFF???

Yeah I got the text from AT&T after i got things working which pointed out that lest step and wouldn't you know it works now.
