Hi All,

Ive been having issues with receiving MMS after jailbreak. I can send MMS to everyone either via iMessages or carrier but cannot view my received MMS. The reason I say received MMS is because I can see the picture popping up on my notification when its received, but when I click on the small picuture, it will take me to my messages and chat screen but no picture, all I can see it name of the image that was sent to me (e.g IMG 9405) with a question mark beside it. I have attached a photo.

I cannot restore as I would loose my jailbreak. I had an unjailbroken iphone 5 with IOS 6.1 which had no problem with viewing MMS but after jailbreaking, same thing happened to that one as well.

I know some users of T-Mobile or other telecomes have issue with receiving MMS which is related to their network setting and evasi0n jailbreak, but as I mentioned, I can see the picture in notification once its received, but it doesnt show in messages. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

My Device: iPhone 5 IOS 6.1

I'm curious but are you able to send mms pictures and see the pictures in the texting app?

If you don't have SBSettings or some tool to quickly respring/reboot, I would recommend getting it

download iFile from cydia. Opening the messaging app. close it and close it from the multitasking bar too. REBOOT your device.

after the reboot, open iFile and browse to /var/mobile/Library/SMS

delete the folders "Attachments" and "Drafts". Delete the file "sms.db-shm" and "sms.db-wal". DO NOT DELETE sms.db IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR TEXT MESSAGES. Now, REBOOT your device.

Open your messaging app and see if you can view MMS now. Just in case, backup that entire SMS folder to a place on your computer.

I can send MMS either way to the other party and they can see it, I can also see my own attached picture in message screen.

I have tried to delete those files you mentioned on the other iphone 5 with the same problem but after reboot, messages app wouldnt load up, it would start and shut down. Even after doing SSH and copying everything over for another iphone 5, it didnt fix the shutting down issue, so I had to restore that one and loose the jailbreak, but dont wanna loose the jailbreak on this one. Are you sure this wont stuff up the messages app? Cheers

That's very strange, it should be perfectly fine to delete all the files in this SMS folder as on reboot, it'll just remake the files. This is how I've restored my text messages the 10 times or so I've restored in 6.1 and 6.1.2 because I was purposely doing stuff to test and then restore.

Unless you deleted a file that affects the texting app elsewhere, I don't see how these files will affect the app itself. But by all means, it SHOULD be safe.

Backup the folder somewhere on your computer.

Try deleting everything inside the SMS folder. Reboot. Open your texting app and you should see that all your texts are now gone. Check if you can view mms pictures now.

If yes, close texting app from the multitasking bar, delete everything inside the SMS folder. Put back the sms.db file in the SMS folder. Reboot. Open your texting app and all your texts should be back. Hopefully, your mms problems will be resolved.

If the problem is back after restoring the SMS.db file, i can only imagine it is something inside the SMS.db file messing up your mms

Make sure your SMS.db file permissions is "mobile" and not "root". Good luck. I hope nothing goes wrong. I would feel bad if it did.

If your texting app really does happen to break and you really want to keep your jailbreak, you could always use biteSMS from cydia to text. It's free with the caviat of the ads banner at the bottom unless you pay for the $7 or so license

Did the deleting and reboot help?

Hahaha man i cannot stop laughing. For the past 2 days ive been googling and staying up till late to find a way to save my jailbreak and then you come along and easily fix the issue for me!

Man I owe to a drink. It worked, now im gonna restore my sms.db and see if it get bogged again. If it does, then screw my past conversations and saved messages, my jailbreak is more important! lol

That's great! It's alright, you tend to get scared to walk into territory that messed up your phone once in the past. Just don't mess with system files if you don't know what you're doing UNLESS you are doing it for the sake of learning and plan to restore anyways. Like me, that's what I did:D.

Went through lots of trial and error and learned a lot of things on how to manually restore things so i dont have to restore from backup but all that is now moot since I can no longer restore and jailbreak. But it was a good learning experience nevertheless. Will probably prove useful for iOS 7 when there is a jailbreak

Just a quick question, I use winscp to log into my mobile. If I use mobile as username, it wont allow me to delete or copy to/from files from SMS folder but when I use root as password I can copy and delete anything in SMS folder. So how to set permision to mobile 667 for sms.db? You mean I should login using mobile as username and then set permission to sms.db? Because I loged in using root username and coppied my backed up sms.db to SMS folder, rebooted the phone but there are no messages in messages app.

You have to log in as root or else you'll be restricted. To change the permissions from root to mobile, just right click the file(s), click properties, and change owner to mobile

Or you can use iFile and set the owner permissions to mobile

When the owner is root, many system applications or iTunes app cannot access the file
