My family is getting iPhones this Christmas, but we are using one of the free texting apps to text instead of paying $30 per month. However, you can't mms with that. MMS uses data, so would we still be able to send MMS if we didn't pay for a texting plan? Thanks...Also, I'm thinking about jailbreaking mine. Should I wait to see if it is a defect or something?\
Edit:...I swear I posted this in the Help forum...Sorry. My bad

Email.

If everyone in your family is going to have an iphone, you really can't afford to pay for texting plans? *facepalm*

If everyone has an iPhone they can email. Why pay for texting?

Doesn't AT&T also offer free calls to other AT&T users? Call them. Email them. There's no point in paying for MMS. If you want instant notification use one of the free texting apps. But email photos/video/audio if you want. GMail is free. You can also set it up with ActiveSync to give you push email as well. Instant enough for photos and such.

I just have my friends email me photos. I use TextNow for texting. But I also have TextNow linked up to my Google Voice account so I actually have a texting number. Which is what I give people for phone calls now as well.

These types of posts really irk me.

Why is it your business if they, as a family, decide to use a free texting app to save money?

To the OP: You'll still be able to send MMS messages. It'll just be on a pay-per-use basis.

I think it's $20 a month for family texting plan.

With 4 iphone's on my family's account it's $38 something i month i think per phone. Not bad i guess. I use more wi-fi than data, don't have 3G where i live.

It's $20 for unlimited texting on a single line and $30 for families.

Thanks for the kinder replies. In case you were wondering, I just wanted to know because I have friends that have MMS on their phones but no internet. So,that's the only reason I wanted to know. Thanks for the answers. And Iron Logic, that's exactly what we plan to do.
