I never said it was developed by Google, but it's for Googles phones only now. Google also offers free stuff that you have to pay Mobile Me for.

I have this app on my N1 and it 's amazing how good it works. It even gives you an option to send your lost or stolen phone a message with an alarm warning that cant be disabled without a PIN.

There is a free app like this out for blackberries as well.
http://www.smrtguard.com/Main?module=Root&action=directDownload&m=r

Its free services include
Remotely erasing your phone,
Remotely having all calls forwarded to another number in case you lose/ leave your phone at home.
Remotely tracking your phone.
It will alert you if an unauthorized sim is put in the phone.

That is the free stuff
For some money it allows OTA backups and restores.

Maybe someday we'll get something like that for free. I don't mind paying a resonable one time fee for something, but I don't wanna pay monthly for a service that you will almost never use.

I'd like something to replace find my iPhone from MM. That's all that keeps me tied to it.

have a look into nuevasync it has remote wipe

I can get a family pack for Mobile Me for $100 and I know 5 people who would go with it, so $20 a year isn't bad.

thats ok but the person with the top [erson would have control over everyone else, the people I've spoken to are very happy with nuevasync for the price and features
