I am fed up with Apple's services. I love macs, but Apple has lost a long time customer and advocate for their .mac-now-mobileme services. I used to tell people to buy a mac and most definitely go with .mac because of the ease of setting up secure email services, having home page space on the web and much more, but for any newbie I'd say "STAY THE HECK AWAY FROM APPLE SERVICES!"

What Apple did to me and my ALREADY paid service is unforgivable. I still have to go to help pages to find out what is wrong. No more comparing Apple's services to microsoft's or anyone else's. Apple loses or ties the others who grovel for the great masses with the lowest common denominator---$$$$$$$ over service.

I have not gotten any email saying Apple with compensate me and now it would do no good. I did get emails to an account I was locked out of (one of two with .mac) telling me they were sorry. I don't think a computer generated bs memo is sufficient. I'll start looking elsewhere for what I used to expect and get from Apple Computers' services..

As far as services the other alternative is manually syncing, I also have a gmail account and even though it's not push, using the fetch feature I've had little to no problems...

I guess if all people wanted wash a pull-push-fetch-bow-wow feature Apple is okay.

but...look at what this guy says to me about Apple's services.

ALL my problems came about because I had to go into my accounts and change things. I may have fat fingered a password and got locked out. But then because Apple had goofed so bad with the whole roll-out of mobileme , I was no longer able to contact them. I tried for a very long time to get in touch with aPple. But I could not. Why? Because their push became a shove and people like me who were existing customers were thrown under the proverbial bus.

I am backing everything up as the member in the attachment says I should. My bad, but unless I backed up everyday there were still invaluable emails locked in the account.

I am in the process of moving across the country and was out of contact with people who replied to my inquiries for apartments/places to live. I was more than inconvenienced and Apple has done diddly squat as far as apologizing and/or compensating me. I didn't ask for anything, but their choosing to ignore me because they are busy rolling out a new product---sucks!

Apple even now has the chat features often turned off because they are---ahem---busy. Sweet! At least now they let you know they are busy. During my hard times they took the links, images and all else OFF LINE so people like me spent hours (including a genius at the Apple store Boston) looking for a way to contact .mac/mobileme or somebody who would give two craps,

You have a right to be angry. Many people have been as angry on here

I will say that at the moment MM is not something I would remotely recommend to anyone.

I do think it has potential though and in the future can be a very valuable tool if stability can be cemented down and new features added

The alternatives are problematic, in one way or another.

I'm currently using MM with gmail: MM is used for contacts and calendaring, and gmail is used for email. Only important/urgent messages are autoforwarded to MM to take advantage of push notification; all mail is read/sent via gmail, and MM mail is ignored (and periodically bulk-deleted). This gives me fewer interruptions, and I no longer have to waste time periodically checking for important email. Also, gmail has secure web access for email; MM doesn't.

Alternatively, if you're feeling brave, there's a currently-free, beta service that provides push google contacts and google calendaring (but no push email). See this article for details:

Here's another method, but I have no idea how well it works:

Side note: when looking for MM alternatives, do a google search for complaints. For example, if you're thinking about using some company -- say, "example, inc" -- I'd recommend searching for something like "example sucks". You might be amazed at some of the things that pop up.

I see what you are saying about the technology, but I am concerned with how Apple has treated me as an existing customer. I still love my mac.

I would not be amazed at crappy other companies treat customers. I just expected more from Apple because of long experience.

and thanks very much for the info

A lot of people including myself have been very unhappy with the rollout of MobileMe, but give yourself a little perspective.

1. Apple doesn't owe you anything. You don't have to be their customer. Their products/services are available for you, if you consciously and purposely decide to pay for them.

People think the moment they give another company money, they automatically have that company in their pocket. There is nothing worse than a customer that thinks $15 gets them as much as they could possibly want. These people deserve to be thrown under the proverbial bus.

2. Apple could care less if you leave Apple products/services. They are fully aware (and so are all educated consumers) that their products/services are unique and attract certain people with certain wants. If someone else can satisfy your techy wants, then go eat it up, otherwise you have the choice to continue to be an Apple customer. Point is, Apple does not need to offer you one iota of customer service. You are a number in a database. Stop pretending like you are anything more to them.

3. As of right now, there shouldn't be anything wrong with mobileme. Stability of the webapps are at about 99%, push services work, and all in all it works better than .Mac ever did (which you've obviously forgotten worked like s*it 24 hours a day for the last x years).

As angry and disappointed as I am about MM...

Plaxo was even worse. Ended up with twice as many contacts and calendar appts as I should have (duped EVERYTHING - try cleaning up that steaming pile of marshmallow). Plus Plaxo's agent was nearly impossible to uninstall and I had to email Plaxo support to close my account when it kept spamming me.

At least I could close my MM account and walk away.

Also tried Yahoo sync. I worked pretty good except that the agent would just stop backing up Outlook, which would require a complete uninstall/reinstall and nuking all my info Yahoo, lest I end up with duplicates.

Caveat emptor... people that claim these other services work typically aren't using them as deeply as I need to. In theory, if you designate the cloud to be the master, then life runs great. Problem is, no one at work is gonna access my cloud to add a meeting.

None of this shiznet (marshmallow) works, at least not well enough to truly trust it.

MM, while far from perfect, is working well enough for me.

Because it syncs between multiple computers, I just periodically backup my contacts/calendar on one of them. Then, if MM ever decides to screw me over (e.g., duplicate contacts), I just wipe and reload MM. However, my contacts/calendar only change once or twice a week, and so periodic backups aren't a problem.

Aren't you the one who posted a thread this morning complaining about Push problems on MobileMe and using the fact that you paid $99 for it and it isn't reliable? https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/537330/

Think it is slightly hypocritical to say such things while you yourself are complaining and using their price AND you paying the price in such complaints?

You mean this?

I've been using push e-mail on my iPhone since launch day and it has worked consistently since. The last 2 days, NO PUSH whatsoever.

Um, hello? Isn't this supposed to WORK as opposed to NOT WORK? I don't get it. I try test e-mailing my .me and .mac addresses to no avail. There is no delay in receiving the message (old fashion fetch works just fine) but If I wanted to play fetch i would have bought a dog. Instead I'm paying $99 a year, have had no reliability and now PUSH, the one FLIPPING reason why I use Mobile Me, is now not working. Somebody please explain!

With the page 2 / blog info, there seems to be potential to get a better refund/extension on mobileme. Sit tight, email / call customer services early, and see what happens. They've moved from nothing, to 3 months, to a year. Steve is pissed, and he knows it's a failwhale in motion, till it gets sorted, and customer anger /tension is rising.

This is one of the most ridiculous replies I have seen in a long while, Apple do owe us something, they owe us the services we have paid ££ or $$$ for and right now the services are not being delivered.

Customers expectations were set by Apple, we did not make up the fact that it should deliver mobile sync etc etc over the iphone, web and desktop platforms and customer service is at the heart of every company, no customer service and eventually no company - if its not delivered yes people have the option of leaving you are correct - that's not the point though as far as I am concerned.

As for your comment re it working better than .mac - Im glad its better for you, however, it would appear from the number of posts on this and other forums its not the case for many people.. The fact that its not quite as sh*t as the last piece of sh*t doesnt wash either.

I dont care if Apple aren't my "friend" Im happy to be a number in a database as long as the services they have sold work most of this time - at the moment for me and many other people this is not the case and its not good enough - not because its Apple because I have paid hard earned ££££ for services.

Rant over!
