Well, I just released my first iPhone app. :)

It is called Mobile Vote and it allows you to vote on all sorts of surveys.

So what is different about Mobile Vote? Well, the cool thing, at least I think it is cool, is that after you vote you get to see other votes coming in from all over the planet. You can zoom in/out and scroll around. You can also see the results color coded by state for votes that were placed in the US.

You can also create your own surveys via my web page http://www.MobilePhoneVote.com

Right now the app is free :). Starting next week the app will be a paid app. I really hate ads and if at all possible I don't want to have to resort to put in ads.

So, if you want to give it a shot then that would be great. The link to get it is itms://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mobile-vote/id380724430?mt=8

Please send all constructive comments to Support@MobilePhoneVote.com

My web site (http://www.MobilePhoneVote.com) also lists the current active surveys.

One of the surveys (under Technology) is one which asks which is your favorite technology site (CNET, Engadget, Gizmodo, iPhoneLounge, MacRumors, MacWorld, and TUAW). I am sure the people who run MacRumors would appreciate a vote ;)

Below is a sample screen shot.

Oh, a 5 star rating would also be appreciated :D

Thanks

Well I vote yes to the app! I downloaded it and love it. Neat way to see what others are voting and where the votes are coming from. There's also a lot of room for improvement, so I look forward to see where this app goes :)

Thanks, yes, there is a lot of room for improvement ;)

In fact, I just submitted an update to Apple and hopefully it will get approved sometime next week.

The improvement is to allow easier browsing through the categories. For example, right now all sport surveys are under the "sport" categories.

After 1.1 comes out when you tap "Sports" you will then be presented with "Baseball, Football, Basketball, etc.". When you tab on Football you will bre presented with football teams (e.g., Broncos, Packers, etc.). If you tap on Broncos you will only get surveys related to the Broncos.

The same will go for all the other categories.

I have lots of other ideas for enhancements. I wanted to get the basic application out there and get peoples comments. Assuming people have a favorable opinion of the application I will continue to add enhancements.

So far, the app has been very well received.

app is great start, nice job with it. a few suggestions, make a category that is just random, like random questions are asked and once you vote and see results you can move to the next, 2nd. just fix the icon bc its squished inside the box and not supported by retina display, other than that its great

That is an interesting idea. I will definitely consider it. I will also look into the issues with the retina display.

Thanks

After playing around with the app for a bit, I have a few suggestions for possible updates:
  • An ability to create questions within the app would rock.
  • Perhaps a fullscreen map view when turned to landscape view?
  • It would be nice if more countries had the "US" style map.
  • More categories & sub-categories (which you said were already submitted in an update).
  • It would be nice to be able to swipe or tap the % results at the bottom to skip through them to find the result you are looking for. Perhaps even an ability to see results in a new page, showing details like how many people voted for each, etc.

Still a great app though, and should help me pass the time when I need something to do :) Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the feedback.

You can create your own surveys now :D via our web page (http://www.MobilePhoneVote.com) all you have to do is register and agree not to post any inappropriate surveys.

This capability will be in the native app in a future update.

I am thinking about adding other countries to the US style. Not sure which countries to start on though and doing this type of map is actually pretty involved.

In an upcoming update you will be able to delete categories and sub-categories. For example, if you don't care about sports you will be able to delete sports and those surveys will never show up again on your device. If you like sports but don't care about the Broncos then you will be able to block all Bronco related surveys.

You can add Canada the the US style first, we've only go 10 provinces and 3 territories ;) I'm pretty sure you tackled the hardest country already, so any others shouldn't be as bad. I'm sure it takes a lot of work, though.

I like the idea of being able to delete certain categories. An option to choose which categories to display and hide would be handy.

Yeah, Canada would be pretty easy. I will put that on my list. I would also like to get all of europe but that will take a while.

Version 2.0 of Mobile Vote just released

Version 2.0 has just been released. This time it only took Apple 4 days from the time I submitted the update to when they approved it. Sure beats 8 days which is what they took for the first version and the first update.

Version 2.0 has two major enhancements.

The first one is that you can now delete surveys and categories that are of no interest to you. Not interested in Sports? Just delete the Sports category and you will no longer see any surveys that are sports related. If you like sports but hate baseball then just delete the baseball subcategory under sports. This should make it much easier for you to only see the topics that you are interested in. You can also restore all deleted surveys and categories in case you want to see them again.

The second enhancement is how surveys and subcategories are displayed. Version 2.0 makes it much easier to differentiate between them.

I am working on version 2.1 which should allow you to easily add your own surveys. You can do that right now but you need to do it from our web site (http://www.MobilePhoneVote.com).

Here are some screen shots from version 2.0

The Mobile Vote app is still free and ad free and you can get it by going to itms://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mobile-vote/id380724430?mt=8

Version 2.1 of Mobile Vote just released. You can now create your own surveys.

Version 2.1 of "Mobile Vote" was just blessed by Apple last Friday night.

The main new feature of 2.1 is that you can enter your own surveys directly via the app. No more having to do it via the web site (http://www.MobilePhoneVote.com) or having to send me a request to add it.

Here are a couple of screen shots showing this capability.

Version 2.2 has been submitted to Apple for approval and version 2.2 will support push notifications.

Version 2.3 is in the works and it will support blogging on the individual surveys.

The app is still free and also ad free :D. You can download it at itms://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mobile-vote/id380724430?mt=8

The app must have been mentioned somewhere because starting Saturday morning the vote activity increased tremendously and the activity continues.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks

Blogging now supported

Apple just blessed version 2.3 (it only took two days this time :D).

2.3 supports the following new feature features:

1. Blogging: You can comment on any survey and see what others have to say.
2. Alerting: You can configure the app so you are notified (either by email or push notification (or both)) when someone comments on a survey that is of interest.
3. You can now tap on the survey results to quickly see the percentage results of the other answers (instead of waiting for the app to scroll through the answers).

The app is still free and you can get it at itms://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mobile-vote/id380724430?mt=8

The feature set of the app and the number of active users is close to where I want it to be and the days that it remains free are numbered.

To see what surveys are currently being run (without downloading the app) go to http://www.MobilePhoneVote.com

Here is a screen shot of the blog entry screen.
