MobileMe and Mail

I have a Mac running OSX 10.6.4 and an iPhone running iOS 4.0.2. I have one MobileMe account (only email account) that I use across these two devices, the service works fine and this is a niggly issue but recently my Mail mailboxes toolbar looks like this:

Where has the MobileMe part come from? I swear before that everything used to be integrated in the top part inbox / sent / trash and not separate like it is now. How can I revert this or is it normal?

Under Mailboxes is your "combined" Inbox Folder. Under MobileMe are the folders specific to MobileMe. I have quite a few folders that I use with Rules (controled on MobileMe Web). I just wish those folders would Push to the iPhone/iPad. They only Push within iMail on the Mac.

Totally normal, and that's how it's been for at least the last two years. You get that in the sidebar for every email account you have set up. The "Deleted Messages" thing is new because MM recently starting archiving email when you delete it (like Gmail does), but you probably should probably check your settings in both Mail and on the iPhone to make sure it's set to archive and not to delete. If it's set to delete, that will cause MM to create an IMAP folder called "deleted messages" and store all "deleted" messages in it. Best thing to do is set up all of your devices to archive, then delete the "Deleted Messages" folder. I don't think there's any way to get rid of the "Junk" folder, but you might be able to by enabling Junk filtering in Mail, and then telling it to use the MM Junk folder for Junk.

That's normal. If your prior email account before MobileMe used POP to fetch the email (instead of IMAP), I don't think you would have ever seen the bottom part before.

But email accounts that use IMAP or Exchange (like MobileMe, gmail, etc) have been presented this way for awhile now. The separation makes more sense when you have multiple email accounts, IMO.

This is how a perfectly synchronized mobileme/mail.app/iphone should look like. Mobileme and iphone folders are a given, so it's just a matter of setting the Mail on os X right. Notice that all folders are identical across the board (on the iphone 'notes' is located in the main menu).

'Drafts' folder on os X will hide if empty, but appear and sync as soon as a draft message is saved.

One thing that annoys me is the inability to turn off junk mail on the server (remember, folders on Mobileme/iphone are a given). I had it turned off on the computer and sure enough, an extra folder appeared at the bottom (the server's folder). My conclusion is, it makes no difference if you have the junk turned off completely or on at it's most permissive setting, therefore you might as well turn it on and receive the junk in the handsome folder os x provided for us

Now, if you have a windows machine it might upset the apple cart. I had it installed in Windows 7 Live Mail and it fetched some extra folders. I didn't have the patience or desire to fix it so I'm happy enough to use the web based mail when in windows.
