Do you think MobileMe will ever allow the use of your own personal domain name with the email service?

I wonder what others think? I haven't been following Apple all that long, so I don't know whether they will do this in the future or now. I can say that as soon as they do offer mail with your personal domain name I will sign up immediately.

It would definitely be easier if they allowed it, but you can have a website hosted on MobileMe and domain-specific email hosted by Google Apps.

It's not ideal, but it works.

Hi!

Just trying to set myself up like this... i've registered the domain http://www.teow.co.uk using 1and1, I used CNAME and web.me.com to host my iWeb website on mobileme. I am now trying to use Google Apps to do my email, google apps says I have to redirect the DNS to google but to do that I have to get rid of the CNAME so the mobileme stops working!

Any help would be fantastic!

Hi Tom!

I use 1&1, and what I had to do is use ZoneEdit (zoneedit.com) to host the NS for my domain. They allow CNAMES and MX records, as well as SPF if you're interested in that.

Basically you register your domain at ZoneEdit. They'll give you their NS addresses. Then go to your 1&1 control panel, select your domain, and check "Use your own name servers" then enter in the ZoneEdit name servers. It will take a little time for the info to propagate.

I've done my domains like this for a while now and haven't had any problems.

I also use Google apps to do it. Gmail is 100x better than MobileMe email anyway.

Not sure why you wouldn't just use the standard, (free) google apps gmail.

same problem

I guys, I'm new to macs and all this stuff. My girlfriend is a designer so uses macs at work. We've just bought one, trying to set up our web and email addresses. I did the website no problem... used the iweb facility with Mobile Me. When it came to getting email sorted it was a different story. So, I've got http://www.joeytribiani.org.uk (example name), and then tried setting up enquiry@joeytribiani.org.uk with the mail facility on the mac. It didn't work cause i had to change the CName to show the website. After reading similar forums as this one i've gone to Zoneedit added my web details there, and changed the nameservers on 1and1 (where i got the domain name from). As yet it isn't showing my site but it does say can take up to 3 days to transfer! My question is, how do I sort out my emails to work on the mail package thing? I could send them before, just not receive them. I want 3 email addresses lee@joey...., enquiry@joey.... and victoria@joey..... Can anyone help? please!

I can't change the MX records since it's in use by a lot of other people. I forward my email to my mobile me account. I created a google apps account with my email address (serrada@mydomain.com). From there you don't have to do anything else. By you creating an account, google let's you use their smtp server. In your iphone you setup your mobile me account(xxxxx@me.com). Then create a separate smtp server entry using your google apps login. Usually when you send mail using mobile me or using another smtp server, your mobile me account will still be seen as the from. This is why you use the google apps login because their server will strip out all of that and insert your apps account name, which will be your actual email address.

domains with mobileme

You can also make use of services like macname.com and iwantmyname.com. Both services provide domain registration and allow for use with mobileme. Macname.com also includes email forwards so you can use your domain with your email.:apple:
