Ok, so I've put up with this for some time but it is getting really frustrating...

Why does MobileMe insist on automatically refreshing when you go back to its tab in firefox? This is a real pain because I frequently start an email, then have to switch to a different tab then back to the email I am writing, at which point, the MobileMe tab refreshes, and I lose the email I'm writing and the screen goes back to the inbox.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

Write the email in a new window? It should be autosaving into the draft folder anyhow - check your settings.

Nope, it does not save to the drafts and it is VERY annoying and is one of the few reasons that I will probably go back to Gmail and just live with not having push.

It sucks, but it is what it is.
