Unless I am completely blind, with the latest MobileMe update (I'm assuming) it seems you are no longer able to set the key photo of an Album in your MobileMe Gallery, not even from iPhoto. Has anyone else noticed this?

I uploaded a bunch of new photos today and wanted to set one of them that I really liked as the key photo for that album (as I've done in the past) and no where in either iPhoto nor Me.com does it allow me to do this now. Why would Apple take away this basic feature!?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

genshi, double-click on album, then select desired photo and set it as a key photo in preferences.

Thanks, I guess I was a little blind or didn't see that they moved the "preferences' in the me.com gallery, but in iPhoto I still don't see where to set the key photo; you use to just be able to right click and set it in the pop up menu, now it is grayed out for MobileMe galleries and Albums (and there is nothing in preferences there) and only Events allows you to set a key photo, unless, again, I'm missing something... But I guess I can just set it on me.com.

In iPhoto, it's pretty much the same way: double-click on album, then left-click on desired photo, set as key photo.

Key photo

I just tried and I was able to set a key photo in MobileMe.
I clicked on the photo I want to be key then I click on the, shot not sure what to call it, it looks like a gear on the top right. If you don't high light the photo ir will be grayed out.

Yep, we've already determined we can do this in MobileMe (on me.com, right?) but not in the synced MobileMe gallery in iPhoto (even with the "settings" gear in iPhoto) or in Albums that you create, only with "Events". You used to be able to do this in Albums and synced MobileMe galleries in iPhoto, but no longer. Not sure when this changed...

As I mentioned previous, I guess I'll just have to login to me.com and do it through there; just seems silly to have to do that when I'm using iPhoto to create the galleries and upload the photos... I should also be able to choose the key photo from iPhoto as well, like I used to for the past couple of years.

I'm adding a screen shot here so everyone is clear on what I am saying.

Maybe it is something simple I am missing, but in the recent past, with all of my MobileMe galleries, I used to choose the key photo simply by right clicking the photo in the MobileMe album within iPhoto... this is now grayed out:

On The Nickel, over there....
Okay. I have no problems setting the Key Photo through the iPhoto MM gallery, exactly as you have shown in the screenshot.
There might be a simple answer.
Could it be the photo you have chosen is already the Key Photo?
If so, the option to choose the Key Photo will be grayed out.
iPhoto defaults to make the first photo in an event the Key Photo. Try choosing a different photo to make the Key Photo for that group and see if the option comes back instead of staying grayed out.

Nope, I've tried every photo in this album. Actually, initially it was that blue photo I was trying to choose as the key photo, I just used this first photo here for illustration purposes (and it is the 6th photo that is the current key photo.) Either way, I can't choose ANY photo, so there is obviously something wrong here.

Can I ask what version of iPhoto you have? Mine is iPhoto '09 version 8.1.2 I believe (or was it 8.1.4? I'm not at my computer at the moment, I'm at a job.) If you have an older version, that would explain why it works for you, but if it is the same as mine, then I'm baffled!

EDIT: @Morod I just noticed that you stated earlier that you have iPhoto '08, so of course it works for you, it used to work for me too (I'm not new to computers; I do know what I am doing here... I know you may not know that, so I do appreciate the suggestions.) So if anyone with the LATEST version of iPhoto '09, version 8.1.2 can verify if Apple has removed this ability, I would greatly appreciate it.

genshi,

There might be a solution to you problem. Drag and drop desired photo by following the red arrow in the screenshot below:

P.S. And here's a screenshot of one of my MobileMe Galleries in iPhoto: http://cl.ly/1Qmf

Yeah I used to do it that way as well and tried that last night, but it didn't work. For my own piece of mind, can you verify the version of iPhoto that you have? Just in case... and is that Alison sniffies in your gallery? She is one of my all time favorites!

Version 8.1.2 (424)

P.S. Yup, Alison sniffies herself. My entire iPhoto library is dedicated to the band. :)

I have the same problem, the pictures made with iPhoto '08 work great, but the newly imported photos in iPhoto '09 can't be set to Key Photo with a right-click on the picture.

However, the drag-and-drop solution proposed by PBF worked for me. Now, I can set MobileMe gallery key photos again.
