I spoke to a customer service rep for MobileMe about half an hour ago. I thought the information he shared with me would bring some peace of mind to some folks...

- For those wanting to merge 2 iTunes store accounts: There were "over 150 calls" on this very issue today (10/13), which apparently is an "overwhelming" number. I was told to sit tight, as this type of volume on any specific issue usually raises a few eyebrows. (If you want a solution to the multiple iTunes Store accounts issue as much as I do, I would encourage you to call Apple.)

- I was told that it may be best, for now, to keep an iTunes Store account that uses the same email address, but has a different username, than your MobileMe/iCloud account.

- Some users (including me) have reported that upgrading to iCloud has prevented them from being able to upgrade OS X apps downloaded from the MAS. Apple engineers are aware of this problem and are working on a fix.

- If you are having trouble upgrading to iCloud, just wait your turn, for now.

- If you are still having trouble with iCloud Mail, be patient, as it should all be resolved soon.

The rep I spoke to sounded exhausted, like he just worked the hardest day of his life. I took sympathy on him, and tried to be as polite and understanding as possible. When all these kinks get worked out, I think iCloud will be fantastic.

Thanks for the post... so to clarify on the situation I am experiencing it looks as though we will get our way...

By this I mean, being able to merge Apple ID's and also the ability to use my NEW me.com email address as my Apple ID and remove my hotmail.co.uk email address???

Thanks again

James

Just to be clear, I was given no guarantee on the merging of accounts issue. I was only told that there was an "overwhelming" (his words) amount of phone calls on this issue, and that this usually leads to someone looking into it.

----------

Did not know you could speak w/iCloud dept. MM did not have phone support back in the day.

I went through support.apple.com, clicked the link to contact Apple, and worked through the menus for either iCloud or MobileMe support (I can't remember which). You have to enter in a hardware serial number for iCloud support; I was told this was so that they could verify your warranty. (My Mac Pro is well out of warranty, but I was able to get them to help me since I am still a MobileMe customer and I recently purchased Lion on the MAS.) The support website gave me the option to have a CSR call me at a designated time.

I did receive a call at the time I scheduled, but it was from a hardware CSR. I described my issues to him, and he said he would have someone from the MobileMe team call me within a couple of minutes, which they did.

Good. I feel like I made the right decision for me.
I kept my primary appleID (my work email address). And then added a new @me account and migrated my old beloved @me account to it.

If apple figures things out I can always go back.
No one knew that address, and no one knows this one. It's all behind the scenes.

And, since dumb ole apple disabled replying from a non ME address, I likely won't be using my iCloud on the web AT ALL.
