I've been trying it out on my MacBook and also created a network drive on my PC that I mapped out, and it is incredibly poor?

  • Shockingly slow.
  • 20GB Space.
  • Syncs contacts on your iPhone and mucks them up every so often, mine got completely wiped this morning.
  • Find my iPhone is pretty poor compared to other software.

I've got to be honest, I'm really into the whole cloud data thing, and I use DropBox on a regular basis, and I've also upped my space to 50GB on my Pro Account. It's so much better? The main reason why people use MobileMe is because of the disk space online right? Yeah, thought so, and it's incredibly poor? You'd of thought after all this time Apple would of made it quicker or increased the space already?

Granted, I'm paying $99 p/a on DropBox but it's so much better than MobileMe? It's near enough the same price and I get more space, I realize that MobileMe syncs contacts, mail, calendar etc, but is it worth it? Would be cool to get you guys opinion.

Thanks! :apple:

I wouldnt say it's 'dreadfull', but I do not believe it is worth the full price. Windows Live does 75% of what MobileMe does for free, and soon they are adding syncing accross devices to Hotmail, in preparation for Windows Phone 7.

If it works well, and works well with iPhone I may switch back to Windows Live, which is a pain because switching from Live to MobileMe has been a painfull process. I still cant fully let go of my hotmail, because it is my Live ID. My Xbox 360 Account is tied to it, my MSN is tied to it. It's my iTunes ID, sadly I cannot change my iTunes ID to my MobileMe, which is annoying.

I prefer Dropbox and Gmail. MobileMe has proven to be unreliable for me in the past (smtp timeouts, iDisk not in sync, push not working, etc.) to be useful. I still have my account and use it for Find my iPhone and will continue to do so under the renewal runs out.

No. People use MobileMe for the suite of integrated features. Iphoto webgalleries. Syncing keychain items across your macs. One click publishing from iWeb. Browser bookmarks synced across Macs, iPhone and iPad. etc etc etc.

If you're happy with what you're paying fir dropbox then that's fine. All I can say that for my needs and for my immediate family, a MobileMe family pack just cannot be beaten for the price (tip: buy it from eBay or amazon, not directly from apple). I have not had any issues with syncing contacts either. Maybe I'm just lucky...
