I just realized something. (that i cant test before i get my new MBP)

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station with a 2TB drive hooked up to it, now the AEBS supports mobileme so that i can print and access my disk from anywhere.

If I put my itunes library on the disk would i not be able to access the music form anywhere without having to actually take it with me?

note: bandwidth is not a problem

I think you will notice that iTunes maintains a library file (.XML) extension. So the problem may be that this file cannot be maintained by multiple users.

This files is, as a minimum, updated every time you listen to music, because iTunes keeps track of how many times a particular track was listened to.

However, you can put the library on the server attach one iTunes to it and share the music from there to other computers using iTunes.

Maybe I oversimplified, by "multiple users" I actually should have written "multiple active itunes applications".

This means if you are careful to exit the iTunes application on a computer before you start iTunes on another computer, hece having only one simultaneous connection to the library file, it DOES WORK.

I have done this for some time, but later I observed that the "library sharing" feature (preferences/sharing) actually is equivalent and you just let iTunes continuously run on one computer.

Try it, and see which option best meets your need.

You may also want to weigh-in Airplay features when you decide which is best for you.

sure, but library sharing only works over local network, the advantage to my solution is that I would have access to my library from anywhere (if it works that is), including outside my home network.

Your plan works perfectly fine, as I have done it. There are a few key pieces:
1. Make sure you add the AirDisk to your login items so it will mount automatically.
2. Change the location of your iTunes library (within iTunes) to point to your AirDisk.
3. Make sure to update your Airport Extreme with your MobileMe login info.
