The MobileMe roll-out and overall quality has been a disaster. Such a clumsy, Vista-like launch is an embarrassment. The product/launch manager should be canned. If this sort of thing happens with Steve Jobs around, just imagine what sort of disasters we can expect across the board once he retires. As much as I love Apple products now, our current good times may not be sustainable and could just be a flash in the pan.

I sold my Apple stock this morning for that very reason...

This MobileMe debacle will affect iPhone's penetration into the Enterprise. Right now, Apple cannot substantiate that they make anything more substantial than cutesy little CE widgets.

Interestingly enough (at least to me), there is widespread speculation today that Job's cancer has returned and he may not be well. SJ is one of my heroes. I hope that's not true, but if that happens, AAPL will get cut in half over night. Remember how bad things got before SJ came back. I'm betting AAPL sees $120 before it sees $200.

I agree with the debacle part but not the Enterprise Part. MobileMe is targeted at the Consumer Market and Exchange Support is targeted at the Enterprise. From what I here Exchange Support (ActiveSync) is working great.

I sure hope not mainly for his family's sake; but for the rest of us the guy is brilliant, and just all-around likeable. His departure from the personal computing scene would be devastating.

Personally i think firing is a little harsh, so its had a rocky start, its one of the only ones Apple has had really, leave them be to fix it

I think that most of this is due to Marketing. They could not do a large beta release/test because they would not have been able to do the launch with Steve giving out the big news. They should have launched this months ago with volunteers and feedback. Then they could have been ready.

The following products stll have the "BETA" label (actually not sure why since they have been out for > 1 year, at least):

Google Calendar BETA
Google Finance BETA

Hell, Gmail is still technically in "Beta"

I also think the MobileMe project manager should be fired. I also stated that in my feedback to Apple.

No excuse for these screw-ups.

Agreed. The layout for this has been a total disaster

Shocking to be honest as every other Apple product I have bought has been consistent, stable, and just a great buy

This really has been a nightmare since Day 1

Failures happen ...

Apple has been nailed by a lot of them lately, but they work on them and "eventually" get them fixed.

Hope so: would be a good time to buy.

Certainly seems to be: I've got it working well here.

That's just the web 2.0 trend of having stuff in perpetual beta so people can't complain if it goes down, or if they do you can say "Well, it's still in beta". At least Apple are stepping up to the plate, apologising for the problems and offering compensation (membership extensions).

Cmon guys...

I like and use apple products but,

.Mac was never really that stable for most (worked ok for me) and they have the same off-site team doing mobileme... Steve said himself "this time, I think we got it right".

This is an omission that .Mac was bad... always was...

Mobileme has got to get better and more important, stable. On the mac side, snow leopard will get it ALL right. On the pc side exchange needs to work near perfect. All this while the phone goes on sale in 22 more countries...

Apple has it's hands full. They are up to bat and need to hit a home run.

Macster, I gotta be honest. I had .Mac for 2 years and never had any stability problems

Maybe I just got lucky though as I have heard many on here say the same thing as you (must be another 1% crowd ) so you may be correct

But with MobileMe, it seems to be a daily damn thing :(

Orleans, As I said,
.Mac worked OK for me... (Many had problems). MobileMe is working perfectly for me... (Many are having problems)

One thing I am going to need to do is buy some new Mac's that are faster to take full advantage of mobileme online. hmmm could this be by apple design :)
