So after reading more than I cared to on the variety of issues and resolutions to using dual video cards that use more than the 2 6pin PCIe power connectors on the Mainboard, I had a thought. I've scoured the internet, and so far I haven't found anything that even hints at this.

Now if what I suggest isn't remotely possible for some reason like science or physical law that I've over looked, please, just be gentle.

Would it be possible to just splice in an extra 6pin cable using the leads coming out of the installed PSU? If you found the appropriate Hot Leads and ground Leads, wouldn't that work without risking damage to the whole system, or the PSU providing that you don't go over the 980 rated watts? Am I overlooking something on this? Someone smarter than me please tell me. :D

When I showed Dr. Stealth's PSU mod to a colleague he asked the question of "Why don't people just sell pre-made replacement PSUs for the mac pro which already do all this inside one box?". Well I don't know what's technically possible but it would be cool if they were available!

That's one way to bypass shorting out the motherboard traces :p replacing the PSU would be cheaper anyways.
