I had absolutely no idea where to get advice on my topic so I came to this board where I frequent very often hoping for help. This is related to the recent KRACK thread where our security is threatened. So I wanted to check my Century Link ZyXel C1100Z router for its latest listed firmware and then check to see what the latest firmware should be. I do have CenturyLink DSL, but I did not get this modem from Century Link, and they are no help anyway. When I first set this router up last summer, I changed the password from the one listed on the modem itself to one I created. So I used this custom p/w when I tried to login and was not successful. After 2 tries, making very sure I was typing it correctly with no success, I tried logging in using the one listed on the modem and was successful. Looking into the modem stats, I see the custom p/w I created at setup, listed under the wireless security tab. But I am very confused, if anyone ever had access to my computer with its nearby modem, with its modem login info listed on its case, they could login and see what I created as a custom password. Sooo, what am I doing wrong in this modem setup, if anything?

In other words, I am looking for some education on how to best protect my modem. This is outside the latest KRACK issue. If you dont have the time to do that here, please direct me to where I might find this info. And please excuse, if this is the wrong place to be asking for this info. TIA
