Facts:
Wife and I are using a Powermac G4, Dual 1.42
Since we use only this computer at home we do not have multiple login users
We are PDA users I am using a Sony Clie NX70V and my wife uses a Palm m130.

We were PC users before, so we always synchronized with Palm Desktop software. No problems. As soon as we switched to the Mac, we got rid of our PC and installed Palm Desktop Software for Mac 4.1 and synchronized with no problems. Then I found out about iSync, examined the mac applications “Address Book” and “iCal”, so I decided to go for iSync. I downloaded the iSync conduit for Palm and synchronized for the first time. It worked great. Then my next step was to buy a .Mac subscription and use the full power of iSync, (I was so excited!)

The nightmare started when I found out that my wife’s Palm m130 was not Synchronizing the date book, to do and address book neither with iSync or Palm Desktop. Later on I found out that when installing iSync, this program gets rid of the Palm’s date book, to do and address book conduits, placing them in “Disabled conduits” folder and replacing them with the iSync conduit.
To solve the problem, I pulled the conduits from the “Disabled conduits” folder and placed them back into the “Conduits” folder, then I configured the Hotsync manager for my wife and she is synchronizing again, but now my Clié is not.
iSync is so good, but seems not to support multiple Hotsync users, and if that is the case I will not buy .Mac (very sad). So, is it true that iSync cannot handle more than 1 palm?

Second nightmare, I tried disabling iSync from my Clie, but even while disabled and using the old Palm conduits, my Clie will not sinchronize the Date Book, To Do and Address book, so I tried removing iSync, so we could go back to normal, but dragging the program to the trash did not removed the conduit, I stil can’t sync. I called apple care and they told me to do a “find” and remove every single item that starts with iSync and I did, and it did not worked. Apple told me, “we don’t know how to deal with that, good luck!”, so:
How do I get rid of iSync? If it is not possible for my wife and I to sync with address book for Mac and iCal using iSync, then we are forced to go back to Palm Desktop Software, but we can not get rid of iSync!!!

Please help anyone!

To be perfectly honest with you,
I think ISync should be named ICopy and be considered a one way only copying of data. that is mac -> other devices. works great when only used one way.
The Problems start when you try to sync data from other devices to the mac, merge entries etc.

Now, where is the problem of deleting iSync from your HD? once it's gone, and the trash is emtied, iSync should not get in your way anymore...

two users on the same account is a bad practice. making two separate user accounts (and getting two separate .mac accounts) will solve this and many other future problems.

Ok then, but, what about this two?

I was talking to my wife yesterday, and I have two theories, here are 2 bigger riddles:

1. The reason that we need to sync together is because we are managing our finances through Quicken for Mac, we have Pocket Quicken installed in our PDAs , where we record every transaction of the day, then, every night we sync every night and keep an accurate account of how much we have left in our financial resources.

Apple told me that I must create a new Mac user account for my wife so when she enters the Mac as “herself” she will be able to sync even with “iSync” if she prefers, but then, my question is… What would happen to me? What would happen with Quicken? Would we still be able to Sync with Quicken and keep the integrity of our information, or Quicken will make a “split” of personalities and our numbers in it would go crazy?

2. Coming back to how my computer is at this time, (with only one profile in the Mac, wife and I trying to sync) What if I told iSync “add a device”? Would it create another profile for my wife and “Address Book” for Mac would show her contacts and my contacts separately? Or maybe it would scramble them together thinking that this is only one PDA? Or may be it would delete one of our PDA’s information? Maybe it would crash?

Any answers to help this situation?

Mac OSX is a multiple user system with that it will not do multiple users on one account you will have to do multiple accounts if you want to synch two different people with the Apple software. Maybe a 3rd party program will do it but Apple software is designed for OSX and multiple user accounts. As for Quicken I've never used it so I don't know.

You need 2 user accounts on your mac. Then put things you need to share into the Shared folder. It may take some configuring, but you should be able to put the files for your banking in the shared folder, and both access them from quicken. A word of caution about putting your finances into the shared folder though, anyone else who has an account can see it as well, but if it's just you two at home it might be ok. You can set the permissions on it so that only the users you specify can see it, but I'm not sure how secure that is.

two .mac accounts cost twice as much. one .mac account is a waste enough, IMHO.

When Panther is released they will be able to encrypt the shared folder or any thing else for that matter.

Correct. I have my computer setup so folders like music and video are open to all users so that an alias of my folders can be put in the other users folders so that they can see all my music and videos. This prevents the need for duplicating all those files.
