iTunes 8 now has artwork for Music and Movie Genres if you sort by Genre in Grid View.

Does anyone know where these are stored so that you could make additional "Genre" specific artwork for both Music and Movies.

iTunes doesn't have artwork for Suspense, but they do for Thriller.
It also doesn't have Hard Rock but it has Rock. Nor does it have stuff like Ska. Just wondering the format of those and where to place them so that iTunes can pick up on them and set it for those Genres.

Thanks to anyone who has figured it out.

Thanks - has anyone made any additional Movie or Music Genres?

OK, here's what I've discovered.
  1. In iTunes 8, click View > As Grid
  2. Click "Genres" at the top to view a grid of the Genre icons.
  3. Select a Genre and move your mouse slowly from left to right across the icon. It should scroll through all the album artwork in that Genre, similar to browsing an album in iPhoto.
  4. When you see an image you want to represent the Genre, Right-click and "Set Default Grid Artwork"
Therefore, to change your Genre icon, first make sure there's at least one song in that genre that contains the album artwork you want to use.

You can create any genre you want by selecting a song or group of songs and "Get Info", then typing whatever genre you want in the genre field.

By the way, default format and size for album/genre artwork: .jpg 256x256

Yes, I understand and I have done that. For a long time I have had an extensive Dave Matthews Band collection - all of which is under the Genre: Dave. There are other Genres that I have used for a long time, most likely because the CDDB imported them as such, incl. Metal, Hard Rock, Ska, Classic Rock, Industrial, etc. And certainly the same is true with Movies. I know how to set Genres for artists and albums, and to type in new ones.

I will be creating default artwork similar to the iTunes artwork for those Genres rather than using a particular Album art to represent it. Same with Movies. I was just curious if anyone else had done any for themselves yet.

It seems that the only Genres present in iTunes 8 are ones that are in the iTunes store, or that would be my guess. I am sure there are quite a few artists who are in the store who I may have classified other than how the store does, such as Led Zeppelin which is "Rock", but I classify as "Classic Rock".

Not sure how this may affect the operation of the Genius ultimately, but I have yet to turn that on and play with its playlist suggestions.

iTunes 8 Genre artwork modifications

I found this forum while looking for help for iTunes Genre changes myself. I did find a site (link below) that appears to help. I'm now looking for free jpeg's of Metal images to add to iTunes folder on my PC. I Haven't done it yet, but wanted to post this info while it was fresh in my mind. I hope it works for you.

Just posted this in another thread

You can create as many genres as you want. Just takes a bit of time.:)
